BuildBIM provided Lead Digital Engineer and BIM Manager roles to the Penlink Alliance, on the  Ō Mahurangi Penlink Project, a 7 km connection from SH1 to the Whangaparāoa Peninsula, traversing farmland and coastal environments.  

This project was a significant step change for how BIM is managed in New Zealand’s infrastructure sector, with an independent Digital Engineer, bringing a holistic view to the project. The Digital project team developed innovative solutions to support design and delivery, including a new AMDS system for NZTA, which developed workflows to automate digital engineering, asset capturing, and construction surveying workflows. 

The team was awarded the 2024 Spatial Excellence Awards in which the project was honoured for its cutting-edge "digital twin" asset lifecycle approach. An integrated Building Information Modelling (BIM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and cloud-managed construction survey methodology to execute a completely paperless, single federated digital model for the infrastructure build”.
